DUSKWALKER

UNDERGROUND FOREVER

Looking at the album cover I knew I was going to have fun with this! The artwork just screams legendary Bay Area thrash! Upon playing the album, the music did not disappoint! I was met with the nostalgic sounds of California’s greatest thrash bands but with the modern death metal shred of guitars and growling vocals!  This is definitely” Beer in the air, stomp around the pit head banging material. For DUSKWALKER being only a four-piece band, their guitar sound has the assault of an army! Although I fully enjoyed this whole album the song City on a Cemetery really gave me some old school Deicide vibes!

Be sure to check out these guys on social media and get their New album Underground Forever on July 26th released by Black Lion Records!

Embryonic Devourment

Prime Specimens

Groovy angular tech death!

Wrecks the neck with deadly precision. Also throws just the right curveball to keep you interested in the cacophony of systematic brutality.

This album is well produced with an edge towards the modern yet underground sound.

The songs themselves are journeys best experienced first hand and LOUD !!!

Bringing to mind such acts: Gorguts, immolation, Averse Sefira, The Zenith Passage, Spawn of Possession, Atheist, Monumental Torment.

With this being the last release on their previous label, I cant wait to hear what they do as new artists of Unique Leader Records!

Check this album out online and at your favorite record shop

Grand Demise of Civilization

Silencer Nephilim

These two tracks from the upcoming 4th album" THE BLAZE OF ABBADON" ,Grand Demise of Civilization show a lot of promise for a full length release. First up is Silencer an epic, dark, droning track that has classical qualities in the way it builds up and slowly expands over its 9:23 running time like a shadow drowning out the light, injecting spurts of speeding blast beats and hyper fills to balance out the seething malice drug along by the songs dominating mid paced drudge.

Heavy and filthy guitars buzz and crunch overtop of tight skillful drumming creating a dank dungeon like atmosphere for the vocals to soar over, adding more dread to the procession showing influences of blackened/death metal along with some DSBM.

The next track Nephilim opens with clean guitars in syncopated waves that crash against the distorted guitars and heavy drums that lead deeper into the song opening up the throttle with balls to the wall blast beats! This track goes for the throat and does not relent until the blood is everywhere! Do whatever you can to get your hands on this album "THE BLAZE OF ABBADON" you will not be a disappointed if blackened death is your thing.

KVAEN

“The Formless Fires”

This is everything I expect out of a Swedish melodic black metal band. The “Formless Fires” single from Kvaen has awoken my slumbering obsession with this genre.

The flow of melodies and clean shredding sweeps feels so organic and natural in this recording, as if it was just meant to be. Kvaen has definably curated their own sound while in collaboration with Fredrik Andersson (ex-Amon Amarth) Sebastian Ramstedt (Necrophobic) and Chaq Mol (Dark Funeral) for various songs throughout the album. The Formless Fires is set for release with Metal Blade Records on June 21st   CD and digital formats will be available with limited collectors vinyl pressings. Click pic for pre orders!

Hyperdonita

Harvest of Malevolence

Thunderous booming guitars and guttural snarls reign out of Hyperdonita’s “Harvest of Malevolence.” Tearing into 2024 with its doomy guitar sound, the album embraces the revival of old-school death metal. “Harvest of Malevolence” keeps the fresh taste of riffage bombardment with trilled guitars and technicality that can only be compared to Incantation.

The production of “Harvest of Malevolence” is what most can say to be optimal, a great replication of the production standards of decades long gone rather than the current trend of overproduced mess. The mix of the album is superb, with every note and crash of a cymbal being able to be digested and understood in the chaos that is “Harvest of Malevolence.”

From the deep depths of the abyss to the skull-crushing grooves, the songwriting on this album is everything I would expect from Hyperdonita. The record provides an experience that satisfies the lust for murderous rampaging riffs and solos that make you feel like a higher being. One standout track that encapsulates this experience is “Marking the Rite,” which descends into chaos with triumphant burning squeals of the guitars.

I recommend this album to fans of Autopsy, Incantation, Immolation, Dead Congregation, and Morbid Angel. Look out for “Harvest of Malevolence” on June 21, 2024.

LEGIONARY

PRISON REALM EP

Legionary is a death/thrash metal band with members hailing from both the Bronx and New Jersey. Now a one man band headed by mastermind Frank D'Erasmo (Drums/Rhythm Guitar), Frank uses the services of some of the best metal musicians in the Tri-State area.  (Mortician, Mortal Decay)

With Previous albums such as Dominate and Depopulate (2015), Once and For All (2014) and Arcane Divsions (2011) Legionary has captivated the elements of old and progressed to faster more skull-crushing guitar work. Each track has its own appeal and distinctive sound to please a variety of listeners.

HOLYCIDE

TOWARDS IDIOCRACY

By the time you read this review the album will be on the shelves and in the digital realm at your favorite record shop and streaming platform.

Holycide wasted no time assailing the listener with a barrage of neck damaging guitar riffs, pounding thunderous drums, throbbing bass, and vocals that scour along.

Their sound brings to mind Exodus, Dark Angel and other bay area thrash legends blended with European thrash icons such as Kreator and Sodom just to name a few.

Top tier thrash with modern lyrical content that would be a real shame out miss out on.

This album got me headbanging and turning up the volume as I wrote this!!!

Malignancy

Biological Absurdity

This track "Biological Absurdity" blasted out of the gates hungering for flesh and blood!!

Brutal with technical edges no time is wasted getting down to the business of smashing your skull in.

With heavy as hell riffs and hammering drums along with thundering bass and sick vocals.

A good single and taste of the upcoming album "Discontinued" which is sure to satisfy older fans and win new ones over.

The new album will be coming on June 14th keep your ears and eyes out for it!!

The experience of The ARKANSAS DEATH FEST III….

By Nina Michell-

It all begins with an idea. ADF is the brain child of Brett Slammin, A good friend of Heath Heyde, who after the passing of Brett, Heath decided to carry on his friends legacy, and soon after the entity known as THE HEATHEN HOUSE had erupted into life. The crew was assembled and plans were made, and with some blood sweat and beers from his Heathens back in 2022, he was able to see this vision come to life. Not only was i excited to hear of a new “Open Air” death fest right here in the United States, I was very impressed with the whole experience from the moment we arrived! I will get into the stage set up in a bit but first , i need to talk about the V.I.P Tree house! That’s right folks, a legit adult sized lounge perched in the trees facing the stage, complete with power, chairs, and tables for your V.I.P experience! Under the tree house is a pre made merch area tucked in the shade for a little extra comfort for the bands and venders. But wait! There’s more!! they have a second pre built merch area for bands to use for added convenience! On to the camping situations!! let me say, every camping site weather V.I.P or not is shaded and has a picnic table! and you can drive your car right to the camp! everyone had their comfort and privacy as well. Lets move on to the Stage! This was impressive! a ramp for easy load on / load off, drum riser , lights and sound! They had everything needed to get the party going, along with a talented and skilled stage crew and running a pro back line. it just made everything run as smooth as butter. Oh , did i mention vendors?? I believe i did! We had  OSSURAY INDUSTRIES on site with ALL their best merch , we had Murder Machine Clothing with all their apparel, patches, hats and more along side the LEGENDARY Tony Koelh with his exclusive works of art!! Its a metal heads shopping mall for sure! This year, The 2024 line up was definitely stacked! This line up had everyone crawling across the U.S to attend!

But don’t take my word on it, check out the video’s on the Machete Eddy Youtube page, make sure you click the flyer to learn more about The Heathen House and their upcoming events and the 2025 Arkansas Death Fest 4!! See ya there next MAY Heathens!!!
